Retired Detective, Ray Quinn, turned Private Investigator, woke up drinking Joe and went to bed drinking Jim. He is living in pain. Pain from being shot and pain from losing all he loved in life. He now has a private investigating firm with, Crevis, a young man trying to make it into the force. They make quite a team together. Ray is offered a case. A case he really doesn't want to take, but needs the money. He is hired to find, Logan Ramsey, an ex-cop, gone bad. Logan is being targeted for stealing from a corporate company. The thing is, Logan Ramsey, is found dead. Murdered, in fact and now, Ray, is off to find the killer. There are many suspects because, Logan, made enemies everywhere he went. Pam Winters is one of my favorite characters. She is helping, Ray, out when she can. Pam is a Christian. She lives what she believes and the thing I love about her? She shares Christ in her walk and talk, but she doesn't push. She knows, Ray, needs to move forward. She knows he is hurting and the alcohol he is using to cover his pain is only hurting him. I love how her conversation always flows to the One she knows can move, Ray, to healing.
I really loved this fiction/suspense novel. This is my first Mark Mynheir book and it kept me up until the last page. It reads smoothly and keeps your interest peeked. There are a few different twists in this book. Ray is also on the hunt for one who is taking advantage of the elderly trying to swindle money from them. Things just seem to fall in Ray's lap. He is always up for a challenge and isn't afraid to jump in head first. This is the sequel to, "The Night Watchman". Although I didn't read the first book of this series, I was able to enjoy it just as if it were a stand alone. He is one of those guys you always want on your side. He is a truth seeker. I can't wait for the next, Mark Mynheir book!!
Mark Mynheir is the author of the Christy Award nominated The Night Watchman, the first Ray Quinn mystery. He has worked undercover as a narcotics agent, as a SWAT team member, and now investigates violent crimes as a detective with the Criminal Investigations Unit in central Florida, where he lives with his wife and three children.
