Only Kristen Heitzman could begin a book with a pair of raccoons being mutilated and make it a story. Not just a story, but a thriller/suspense with an added romance building through it. This book has it all, and it kept my attention through the entire story as it unraveled.We meet Jonah Westfall, the local Police Chief, and when he finds these two raccoons, not only dead, but sewn together, he knows something or someone is up to no good, and from there the story just escalates.This story shows us the dark side of life and how just one event can begin to uncover much more.As Jonah is searching for answers, he begins to uncover and open up his past that has been holding him back from so much. I love books that you pick up and read the first chapter and have no idea what will happen in the end, that was this book for me. I was totally suprised at how Kristen brought this story alive. Just when you think you trust those around you, you learn they are not who you thought they were. In this suspense we also meet Tia, a long time friend of Jonah. They are not only friends, but hold a past.Their friendship does not always bring a smile when they see one another, but their hearts do still stir. Both these characters are carrying burdens of long ago, and as they release those, we see how God works in their lives.
