Need a little light?

"This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin." 1 John 1:5-7 In order for us to have fellowship with Christ we must be living in the light, we must be pure. Remember going to bed when you were a child and you were afraid of the dark, you needed a nightlight? It gave off enough light that it made you feel safe, secure, and with that comfort you could close your eyes and fall asleep dreaming of wonderful things. For me, without a nightlight, I couldn't see, I was afraid of the dark, and of what I couldn't see at all, and then I was not able to sleep, to have comfort and the peace of seeing around me. With Christ, He is the light. When we are walking with Him, we are walking in the light. If we are not walking with Him we are walking in darkness. There is no in between, you are either in the light or in the dark. When we are in the dark we can stumble, and fall. Last week as my husband was walking down the hall, he had switched the light off, and forgot the vacuum was in the hall. Well, that vaccum got in his way, and he stubbed his toe and fell in the hall. He thought he broke his toe.It has an ugly, mughty big bruise on it. If he would have left the light on until down the hall, he would have seen the vacuum to look out for it. As the moon lights up the night sky, as the stars create for us a display of light on a clear night we can think of Christ and the light He is for us. Although He created the moon, and the stars to light the night sky, maybe He was hoping we could see how important light is. We are even drawn to light. It gives us such a feeling of comfort. We began using candles for light, as families gathered together around the table to read God's word or to do homework, or knit, then we expanded to the oil lamp which gave off even more light, and then to be amazed at Thomas Edison's invention of the lightbulb to light a whole room. The bright lights of the big cities that shine forth give amazement to those who see them. For us in the country we don't have the big city lights, but we have the beautiful, open night sky that we at times can stare at for hours in wonder of God's creation. Wouldn't you have loved to been there, been there to see God place each star in the right spot? Did He ever place one and then look and say,"Um, it looks better over here?" I am amazed at God's wonder and how He did it all so perfect. He knew we needed light, and He knew He would be referred to as the light. In all God does, He has a plan and a purpose. He doesn't want us walking in darkness. He gave us light for a reason, and one was to show us just all we can see in the light. If you are traveling across the country, if you drive through the Smoky Mountains at night, you will miss the spectacular view. God doesn't want us to miss the view, He wants us to be where we can see all around us. If you are walking down a street at night, do you feel safer knowing there are street lamps, or knowing you are in total darkness? In the darkness we are under attack from many directions, but when we are in the light, we can see in all directions, and if we are focused on the light, nothing is going to get passed us. God is holy, and untouched by sin, there is no darkness in Him at all. Satan is all darkness, there is no light with him. Our lives should show light, they should show that we are walking with Christ. We can be lightbearers in the world we live in. Our lives should be a reflection of Christ in all we do. We should not be fellowshiping with those who are in the darkness. If we are living in sin daily, we are walking in darkness, God cannot be in any darkness. We must therefore stay near Him, stay in His word, and allow Him to cleanse our heart so that there is no darkness in us. We can help light this world up if we will stop hiding our light, and letting it shine forth. When we stumble in the darkness as my husband did, let us pick ourselves up, turn on the light so that we may see a clear path to walk...
