Do you ever think about Noah?
We can read about Noah in Genesis. Noah is one who amazes me the more I think upon Him. Here is this man who is walking with God, seeing all around him fall apart. He has his wife and his three sons, along with their wives. It tells us,"This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God. And Noah begot three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth." Genesis 6:9-10 As I read "Then the Lord saw the wickedness of man was great in the earth, adn that every intent of thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. So the Lord said,'I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord." Genesis 6:5-8 I think upon how God created the earth and all that is in it, and was so pleased and praiseworthy, and now here the earth has sadend Him, and He is sorry that He made it. Can you imagine the pain He was feeling? Here He gave so much and the only man on earth He found just was Noah. Can you imagine how Noah feels at this time? The man in which God is speaking to, the man that God is calling upon to build this huge ark to fill with the animals of every kind, and his family is Noah. It gives us information of the design of the ark, the shape, and just how big it is. But it doesn't tell us where he had to get the supplies, and just how he did it all by hand. There is much given, but also much to learn someday in heaven just how Noah accomplished these tasks. Do you think Noah stood back at first and thought,"God, you want me to do what?" Here Noah is building the ark, and those around are watching and they are not giving support. They may have thought he was a crazy man. One thing I find interesting is that it doesn't say his sons helped him. It doesn't say his sons were believers, it only shares how they boarded the ark with Noah. Did they believe in their father's work for God? Did they turn away in shame and think he was crazy? At what point did they come to believe that God was just who He said He was and also believe in their father as well? When their father said its time to get on the ark, they followed with their wives. Can you imagine God calling the animals to come forth, and the sight on Noah's face? Can you imagine those first rain drops that fell? What did the people feel then as they saw the drops of rain that Noah was trying to warn them about? Can you imagine as the waters began to rise and cover the earth, can you see the people? Were they trying to get upon the ark, did they at that moment wish they had of turned to God and lived their lives for God? During the flood can you imagine all the animals, all the time it took to care for them? It would have been a full time job. They send out a raven to see if the water is decending. "Then God spoke to Noah, saying,"Go out of the ark, you and your wife, and your sons and your son's wives with you. Bring out with you every living thing of all flesh that is with you: birds and cattle and every creeping thing that creeps on earth, so that they may abound on the earth, and be fruitful and multiply on the earth. So Noah went out, and his sons and his wife and his sons' wives with him. Every animal, creeps on the earth, according to their families, went out of the ark." Genesis 8:15-19 So now what did Noah think? Now they are to begin all over again. Noah builds an altar for God and God makes a covenant. "And the Lord smelled a soothing aroma. Then the Lord said in His heart, "I will never again curse the ground for man's sake, although the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done. While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease."Genesis 8:21-22 God goes on to tell Noah about the rainbow placed in the sky." And God said: 'This is the sign of the covenant which I make between Me and you, and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations. I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be seen in the cloud; and I will remember My covenant which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh." Genesis 12-15 This is one of my favorite stories and one that I find so interesting as to how Noah faced himself each day and his family. Noah followed God, he walked with God and he believed with all his heart. It didn't matter what his wife thought or even his sons, the people of the city and all who watched. He was going to follow God no matter who else followed. Our lives can be like that. We can be as Noah, on our road walking and here comes God and says to follow Him and as we do our family turns away, our friends turn in a different direction not wanting any part of it. But this story gives so much hope. If Noah's sons did not share in his passion for God, they did come to know before it was too late to board to ark. They remembered their father's teaching at some point, and they were there where they were to be, with their father and God beginning a new life. Is God feeling like that today when He looks down upon His children? Is He again wondering what happened, why don't they see, why don't they believe before its too late again? What do we know about holy? God is holy, and for all He has given and continues to give we can only bow to Him and humbly say thank you, and follow Him with all our hearts. Noah took a chance and he stepped forward to do a big project for God. He followed God and didn't give up. God gave him all he needed, and blessed Noah for believing and walking with Him. Can you picture all this happening so many years ago? Can you picture God now and what He thinks of His creation? We have a choice today, we can be a Noah and take a step of faith or we can stand while the raindrops begin to fall and wish we would have followed...
