Content in all the chaos

This week I have found myself at home alone as my son and husband both traveled. I can tell you part of me was looking forward to a little quiet time alone. I would have time to write and catch up on all of my reading. I could also catch up on some of my chores and just enjoy the silence.

Well friends, this is not how my week went. I found myself lonely and missing the noise. Sure, I found time to read and the Lord filled me with wonderful ideas for writing. He too sustained me in ALL. The Lord can fill the quiet with His mighty greatness. He has a way of showing Himself in the quiet or through all the noise. He can reach us anywhere.

I  was able to do the chores that had been waiting my attention, but my real joy came early this morning when both of the men in my life returned home. It was so sweet to hear the sound of my husband's truck to pull into the drive way and to receive a hug from my son as he entered the door. I have a whole laundry room filled with clothes! I have a son snoring on the sofa with Daisy wrapped around him. Our home is buzzing again and this girl couldn't be happier!

I have boots all stacked up by the front door and dirt on the floor once again! The television is just a little louder and music is flowing LOUD from Jake's room. I can tell you, I will not tell him to turn it down this week!

I often wish I could have a few moments of quiet. Yes, that quiet is nice. We all need a few moments to our self,  but there is nothing like the sound of your family around you. Too often I find myself taking that noise for granted. The world tells us how much we need our "Me Time", but "Family Time" is where I too find myself. I see the Lord in the sweet smiles of my family. I hear His wonder in the laughter of my family.

The Lord reminded me today not to complain when the work load is heavy and the chores are piling up over my head. I just need to take a breath and remember that those very chores and noise that fill our home are here because I am surrounded by family. Family that is worth my time. Family that fills my heart with joy.

Family is like the beauty of a flower that catches your eye, but the sweet nectar is what takes your breath away. Too often we just pass over the flowers and keep on walking, not paying attention to the beauty in the small things of life. We are too busy to stop and breathe in all that is around us. All we need to do is slow down and enjoy each and every moment in our life. That includes the laundry that awaits us and the mud on the floor that your son tracked through on his way to feed the dog.

Take your time today and enjoy ALL that touches your life. All the sights and sounds no matter how quiet or loud, allow the Lord to remind you just how sweet life really is.

"A grateful heart is one that finds the countless blessings of God in the seemingly mundane everyday life."
