really? just one?

I have to admit, there are times I look over at those following my blog. I don't think of those followers as numbers, but people, friends who I share with. Like a friend of mine shared a few days ago, I too have struggled with numbers. We seem to think the more followers we have the more we are empowering the word. Well, the word empowers itself, doesn't need anything more to add to it. But I think we all can struggle with the feeling, am I really making an impact for the Lord?
I see those blogs with thousands of followers and I think to myself, "Wow, how did they do that? The Lord is really blessing them." That is such a wrong attitude to have. I gotta tell ya, whether I have two thousand followers or just me, I would still write and follow the Lord in this passion He has given me.

We often think we could never do anything for God, not just one person. But just hold up for a minute. Jesus was One person. He changed the world. God knew He only needed One. One person living for Jesus can move mountains. I am learning not to think I can never do this or that, not just me, but oh yes, just me, just you. Just one person willing to serve and give with an open heart can make an impact on the world.

You may say, "Well I really don't have a lot of friends to encourage me." Look what Jesus did with twelve disciples? In those twelve He had His inner circle that He was closest to. It doen't take a lot to move and do mighty things.

The problem is we think too much like the world wants us to think. It's not popularity. It's not about being seen, and its not about ME. Its all about Him. More often than not, I can sit back and read my own writing, and see the Lord speaking right to me. I can sit down after writing and think,"Wow, no one is going to understand that one." The next day I will get an email or a comment of someone sharing that was exactly what they needed to hear at that time! God moves in us and through us, and believe it or not all it takes is one to follow and obey His word and to do His will.

Never think we have to be big and mighty for God to use us, in fact He uses us when we are at our weakest point so He can be strong through us and show Himself. God can use anyone for His glory and His purpose. We too often make up excuses because we are afraid to fail. Failure is never trying in the first place. A mistake is only a mistake if we never learn from it. Growth takes time and for us to grow we are going to have to fall a few times before we can really learn to stand.

Have faith in God. Have trust in God, and believe He is who He says He is. If we walk with our eyes wide open and our hearts reaching out we will find ourselves doing and living in His will.

God changed and used Paul in mighty ways. He used little David to slay giants and to rule over a kingdom. We can open God's word and see all those who He moved through. We can look all around us and see God moving. Don't give up and think your too small to do anything. Through the smallest treasures God brings the biggest wonders.

Stop looking over to the side at those followers. Stop worrying that you don't have thousands listening to you. All you need to do is listen yourself and you will hear God's whisper one day, "Well done my good and faithful servant."
Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
Philippians 4:19 " And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus."

he loves me he loves me not

Ah, the games of our childhood. Do you remember picking up that daisy and counting those petals in hopes there would be just enough to land on he love me? Oh the sweetness of being in love, but the heartache of not receiving that love you feel so deeply hurts. As little girls we played that love game, and I am sure if truth be told there were a few boys that joined in. They were always trying to learn our secrets, right?
I remember picking one petal off at a time, and sometimes I might just pick two off and say, "Oops" just to giggle and say, "Wow, he really loves me." We play games like that don't we? Still today as married couples we can lose track of the realness, getting lost in what we want and don't have.

Those first date nights are great aren't they? Holding hands, flowers, kisses that never end, and everything just has a sweetness to it, and then you marry. Now, those first years are still moving right along in that romantic turn, until what? Ah, that first babe comes, and life changes forever. Now that precious babe has become your center of attention, and you begin to let other things go. You see less of those little notes, the flowers come and go, and those date nights? They are long gone by the time child number four comes along. Am I hearing any amens out there?

Now after you have six children, two dogs, a few cats, and the hamster is lost somewhere in the basement you are good to find your brain in the morning, much less go for a romantic evening out. After you have fed the baby, you have spit up all down your shirt, and poo in your hair you realize the dog needs to go out, only to find he has already gone. Your doing the laundry, the lunch is burning, the kids are screaming, the school work is not being completed, and Sarah just ate something that was on the floor! Little Katie loves to draw on everything in sight, and now its almost five o'clock and you have no idea whats for supper and just realized you didn't even eat breakfast!

Your husband comes home, kicks off his shoes, and says, "What's for dinner hon?" You try to explain how busy you were all the while he is looking around and says, "At what?" By this time you are ready to grab the bat your son has been swinging at the cat all day and take one good swing!

By the time you finally get to dinner, the kids have their bath, the dogs have been all taken out, the kitchen is almost clean, and that last load is being put in the dryer, you now get to crawl into bed, forgetting about your bath as your head hits the pillow, and you hear from your loving husband, "Ya wanna you know?"

Now is when the tears start to fall and you try to explain how you feel, but he doesn't hear a word you are saying, because you have totally lost touch on how to communicate as you once did so lovingly as you laid your head upon his shoulder and fell asleep.

After your kids are almost out of the house now, you find its just you and your husband, and you are lost at what to do. He says, "What would you like to do this weekend?" You answer saying, "I don't know, what do you want to do?" You may go out for the day, but if you do all you talk about is which thing reminds you of which child, or you may just decide to stay home and do nothing because you couldn't decide where to go!

Marriage is not any easy thing to accomplish. There are changes throughout marriage and different seasons together. We get so confused when we can't communicate right. If we do not know one an other's love language we are never going to understand each other no matter how much we try. Ever feel like your talking to a wall? There ya go.

I have gone through many of these stages, and I gotta tell ya its not a piece of cake as it was dating years ago. Oh, the love is still there, its just gotten misplaced over the years. We have put so many other things before our marriage, that now we have forgotten how to have one.

I have been talking to my husband like I want to be talked to, but he hasn't been hearing a word I have said, just as I am not hearing what he is saying to me, but in our own language we are trying to communicate. My love language is words of affirmation, so that's how I have been speaking to my husband. That is not his love language, so therefore there is the confusion we have been feeling.

My Pastor always says that we need to knock ourselves out trying to please the other, but if we are not learning how our spouse needs to be loved we are not moving forward but backward.

Without communication we have nothing. We can have all the love in the world, but if we are not communicating that we find ourselves feeling lonely and wanting.

We can lose our way so quickly. We spend years finding our joy in our children, and once that time is passing, well, we find that we have missed out on a lot of date nights. We can't allow that to happen. We must place our marriage right where it should be, first. If our marriage is strong, our children will see that and grow to have strong marriages. They want to see their parents in love, and showing that love. When we take the time for one another our lives as a whole are more special and meaningful.

Now, my husband worked very hard. He would go to work, plus work at home and once it got dark he was ready for bed also. We get tired. We get over worked, and we put too much on our plates. We try to gain the world, when all we need to do is love who is right in front of us. Its not the things of this world that are important, its the people in it.

If you are tired, I know how you feel. If you are feeling lost, and lonely, I too know that. I know the feeling of wanting more and not knowing how to do it. I want to talk until the sun comes up. I want those date nights, and I want my marriage restored and renewed. So how do I begin? On my knees. There is nothing more powerful than prayer my friends. If we are lacking there is one reason why. We are not asking for it, and the Lord wants our marriages to be strong, rock solid towers of love.

Its time to turn off the television, book down the book, (ouch) and take some time for what we have taken for granite for so long now.

That saying "How do you spell love?" You spell it "TIME". May we learn to communicate. May we learn to let other things go, and take time to hold hands, say sweet words, and find out each others passions and dreams. That love you have is mighty special, and to make it last, to make it real, and to make it grow is going to take work. Too many give up too soon. We walk out without trying, and we say goodbye before we really learned to say hello.

Make the Lord the light and passion of your life. Make Him the center of your marriage, and rap everything else around Him. May He be that third strand holding you and binding you together stronger than ever before. Its never too late to renew, to re think, and to rekindle that love somewhere you lost in those diapers.

Lord, strengthen our marriages. Bind us together with You. May you bless us, and meet every need we have. May our marriages bring glory and honor to You. Help us to find that sweetness we once held so tight when our eyes first met, and our hands first touched.
Ephesians 5:22-33 "Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as also Christ is the head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and the wife see that she respects her husband."

THIS LITTLE PRAYER OF MINE By Anthony DeStefano

Inside this beautifully illustrated book lies the prayer of a child. This book would be a wonderful addition to your collection of books for your child. We see the glimpse of a precious heart praying to the God they believe in and trust. We could all take a lesson from these beautiful words spoken so purely from a child's heart and heard from up above. I loved this book and willing be giving one to my new grandbaby to cherish. This little book is a great teaching tool for children. The pictures in this book are brilliant and bring it to life and will enlighten any child.

a new day

What do you do when those storms come? What do you do when those changes come that we are not ready for? We can choose to climb in the lap of Jesus or we can become angry and move away from Him. Even those who have a strong faith can feel the tides coming in and not sure which way to run.
One of my favorite times was when I carried my precious children. I loved being pregnant, and for the most part I was just joyous all the time. I was blessed to carry three children, my beautiful girls and the son who changed everything I knew. I knew nothing about having boys, but that all changed quickly. I am blessed beyond words to have the children I have.

Although, my husband and I thought we would have a whole house full of more children. When we married he had two, I had two and we had Jake, who seemed to bring us all together. But my pregnancy with Jake was much harder. There were many complications, and he wanted to come early. Although they stopped my contractions many times, the last time they couldn't. I was barely seven months along. His birth was a frightful one. I didn't know if my baby would survive until hours later. Praise Jesus everything was wonderful with him. Although a preemie, at seventeen he is now 6'4.

After Jake we wanted more children. Our home was already full of love, but more added just would have been extra blessings. But that was not to happen. During 9/11 I had to have a hysterectomy. A partial, but none the less, no more children for me and my husband. My son would not have a little brother or sister to torture as he was.

As some would say, "Why are you so sad, you have three beautiful children?" I just wanted to cry. I didn't understand why I couldn't have more children to hold at night. It took my body almost a year to heal after this hysterectomy, but the scars it left are still there today. For this girl who loves children so I just wanted to share in having more. But it was not to be. I know the Lord has His way and purpose for my life, but it was hard for me to accept. Now ten years later it is much easier. I take delight in my friends babies, and I am soon to the greatest Nana ever as my oldest daughter is carrying her first.

There are those women who have miscarried, those who have lost their children at an early age, and those who have never been able to carry a child of their own. My heart breaks for these women and men who want to hold their own baby so very much.

Although I do not understand why, I trust in the Lord, for I know His ways are higher than mine. He renewed me and gave me great joy in the days to come after my hysterectomy. It was a process in which I wanted more, but He was enough.

Things happen in our lives, and we are not sure why. They just happen for no good reason it seems, but God sees all. He knows all and He has a greater purpose. He is moving and molding us, creating in us all He has created us to be.

Through all those tears I cried, through all those roller coaster emotions, He carried me through. When I wanted to turn away, He kept calling me back. My walk with Him has been sweeter through the trust I have in Him.

I even had a name for my next baby girl, yes, she would have been a girl no doubt. Emma Grace Prater. Although that day never came, my youngest daughter has chosen that name for her daughter to be some day. The Lord sends blessings we never expect to see, and He send them just at the right time we are ready to accept them.

For every woman's arms that are empty there is a child who needs tender love and care.

Whatever you are going through this morning, and you think its the end of the world for you, there is more. This trial too shall pass, and you will see that mountain top. As you walk through that valley, the Lord has your hand. It is through those valleys that we once at the top can look across and see all the beauty before us.

Trust the Lord with all your heart today. Lean on Him. Open your heart to Him. You are not alone. Go to Him for your strength and support. He will give the grace for you to move forward and through Him you will find that He is all you need.
2 Corinthians 12:9a "And He said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness."

can you see it?

A few days ago while out shopping with my son I decided, I am going to smile and speak to everyone I meet today. Ya know what? I did and what a blessing. When we look into an other's eyes and say, "Hello", they respond in ways we wouldn't think. That smile appears, and their day is brightened by just one reaching out.
When we carry joy in our hearts it spreads to others. Just one smile can change someones day. You know you have seen those people out shopping with grim looks upon their faces, those carrying heavy loads, but trying to carry on with their day. I have looked like that and when another smiles upon me, it makes me smile in turn.

You know that laughing game? The one where you make yourself laugh, and then another begins to laugh? It just continues to catch on and that laughter becomes real, it is contagious, and it gets louder and louder as each one joins in. When we laugh, when we share ourselves with others it allows them the freedom to open up and shout out loud the gift of joy.

Ever been standing in line at your local store and find it is a new young man at the register? He is lost, and it is taking forever. What do you do? We can stand there aggravated and allowing our temper to fly, or we can choose to lighten his load with a smile. This happened just a few days ago to me. As I was standing there the couple in front of me were not too happy at this young man's progress. I could see the look of frustration on his face. So when I came up to him, I smiled and started a conversation and told him its okay. Now, I have been like the couple in front of me before just wanting to hurry and get out there, but sometimes that is our very problem. We are in too big of a hurry to reach out to others.

Listen to the fruit of the Spirit we are to carry in our day. Galatians 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law." Can we really carry one of these without the other? No, we cannot. If we are to carry the fruit of the Spirit with us, and in us, we must die to ourselves and begin reaching out with the love Christ instilled in us.

When we go shopping for fruit which do we pick up? Which catches our eye? We pick up the brightest fruit, the fresh fruit, one with an aroma of sweetness. Those that are ugly and smelly we leave behind. No one wants to take that kind of fruit home. Its not lasting, and it will not taste good. There will be a mighty after taste when we bite into fruit that is not fresh.

Our walk is the same. We must leave a good, and loving after taste for all those who are in our path. We need to have that fresh aroma, that sweetness that calls people to our attention so they can see Jesus through us. If we work on one of these traits, we will soon carry all of them, and others will see something different in us. They will see love, something everyone needs a little more of.

beauty in imperfections

I finished my last label for my blog this morning. Yay! That was a long process, but one of joy. As this blog is a work in progress so am I. God is continually teaching me, and showing me His purpose for my life.
As I went back through each post I left all the mistakes in grammar. I left all the imperfections, because I am imperfect also. Through each imperfection I have the Lord has His way of shining through to show Himself. No matter how much I try to get each post right there are still mistakes. I am learning that it's okay to let go and though I do my best, I can never be perfect.

I am not the perfect Christian, nor am I the perfect wife. I will not make the perfect friend list, and I will not make the designing magazine for my home. Although I try with all my might to keep my home clean, there is always dirt. There is always something more to do. I am learning to take each day at a time, and not beat myself over the head when I do not get something right.

I falter and I stumble daily, but there is One to lift me up and set me back on my feet. That One is Jesus Christ. It is through all these lessons that I find Jesus and His great love for me.

Ya know, its so easy to give up on others. Its easy to see the faults in others and point them out. But we must remember no one is perfect, least of all us. Why is it we know we are not perfect, but we want others to be? We see in others many times what we want for ourselves, and we expect others to give us their best. People, family, and friends are going to let us down. Most of the time no one is letting us down on purpose. We have just chosen high expectations of others and that is what we want to see, but when we don't we see failure, and that is something our eyes and our hearts do not want to see. But in those imperfections we find that pure, raw love. We find a realness about others.

Instead of always doubting, why not just lift others up? We do not have to expect the best, but we can accept the trying of another. We are all a work in progress and Jesus is not finished with us yet, praise Jesus, cause this girl has a long way to go yet. I am learning to keep my head up. I am learning to come out of my box, and to follow Christ through all. I am learning to let go and let God.

I am amazed through those posts in my blog how the Lord just kept teaching me. He stood by me through some tough times, and He is still there today. Through those posts I find encouragement and growth in this girl who only wants to follow Christ.

Christ made each of us different. Where one will excel in one area, another will do great things in something totally different. We sometimes expect more than what we are willing to give ourselves. That is a hard one to learn and accept. But if we will stop looking for perfection in others just maybe they will learn to stop looking for it in us.
Ephesians 2:8-10 "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them."

GREATER LOVE (TRUTH OF TIDES SERIES BOOK 3) BY ROBERT WHITLOW

As I pick up the third book of this series I am eager to find what is now new in Tami's life. Tami is a woman with a passion for law, and set on following Christ through each path He has chosen for her. Again we find Tami with many decisions to make. Which law firm should she invest her time in, and which young man is the Lord calling her to spend sweet life with? Tami has values and a life style that others stop and take notice. They know there is something different about this young woman with a passion to reach others. We are able to see her family again in this book, and how Tami still values her parents wisdom. She has a quality that carries her far, a greater love than herself.
We find the story wrapping around a young girl, Jessie, a run away in need of greater love, who came from a home with anything but. As this young girl is on the run she meet up with Sister Dabney, a strange but loving woman on fire for the Lord and a purpose of bringing others to Him. As young Jessie finds herself in trouble Sister Dabney is there to guide her through and leads her to Tami. Tami takes on her case and finds herself with more decisions to make.

Again we have sweet Ms. Fairmont blessing Tami's life as Tami is staying with her again as she begins a new life with a new firm.

Tami has many in her life looking for and giving greater love to others. We have Zack, patiently waiting for the woman he loves, Ms. Fairmont who seems to give all she has no matter the cost, Julie, Tami's partner in the firm who is seeking and giving a greater love selflessly. We all need a circle of people as Tami has surrounding us, lifting us up.

I loved this book just as I loved the first two. Robert Whitlow has a gift to place us right there in the midst of his stories.

This book was a gift by Thomas Nelson for its review.

all He gave

As I open my bible up to John chapter 19 I read as tears are streaming down my face. Today we reflect upon Good Friday. We return to that day where Jesus gave all. Jesus did not lose His life, Jesus gave it freely. Why? He did it for you and I. Through Him we can find freedom and redemption. It is through the grace He gave this day that we can find life.
I am a visual person. Whenever I am reading a book or a column in a blog I visualize the whole picture and place myself there. That is where I find passion for others and for finding a deeper meaning in life. So as I read I place myself there although I do not want to be there watching.

Can you see it clearly? Can you see Jesus torn and broken? Can you see the crown of thorns upon His head? Can you hear the sounds around Him? Those that are shouting crucify Him are drowning out all else. Their shouts are heard over everyone, but there are those at His feet praying. Can you see His mother, Mary at His feet? This is her Savior, her son. This is the One she carried, the One she watched grow before her eyes. As a mother this breaks my heart. I can feel her pain, and as His child I am broken to see what they are doing to my Savior.

The soldiers are near, along with two men on either side of Jesus. I find it meaningful that Jesus is in the center of them. Jesus is at the center of us all whether we see it or not. Can you see the soldiers fighting over His garments, casting lot for them? Can you see the mocking, the scorn, and the piercing of His side?

As much as I want to look away I cannot. For this is the day my Savior died for me. This is the day He gave His life so that I could have life through Him. I do not want to forget this day. I never want to forget what my Savior did for me, the sacrifice He took upon Himself, the grace He showed the world.

His friends were there. Those disciples who walked with Him. Those who believed, but did not understand everything were before Him. Can you see their tears and hear their cries for their friend, the One they walked with daily?

As Jesus cries out "It is finished", darkness takes over, and all the world is changed forever because of the gift of the One who came to save, One King, One Savior, who followed His Father willingly. Can you hear those words my friend? Those words, this day were for you and I.

In John 3:16-17 it says: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved."

This story does not end here, no, indeed, it continues on to more glory and greatness that our hearts cannot comprehend. Jesus rose on that third day. He is not in that tomb any longer. He is free from death just as you and I are when we choose to believe in Him. He gave this gift of life, and He was our final sacrifice. After this day there would be no more sacrifices, for Jesus was the sacrifice for the world, for those who were praying at His feet, and those who were shouting "Crucify Him".

This day nor Easter is not about Easter egg hunts and bunnies. It is about our Savior. All else takes away from the gift He gave so freely. May this Easter you have a renewed belief. May you find yourself at His feet, feeling His forgiveness and accepting His love.

Jesus, I praise Your mighty name for your sacrifice for me. I raise my hands to Your glory. It is through You that I can find freedom. Just as those heard the shouts of "Crucify Him", they also heard the shouts of "He is risen"! Praise Jesus, praise His Holy name forever more!

Can you just pay attention?

Something that is really on my heart is driving while texting and talking on the phone, eating, putting on make up, having your computer on the seat next to you, and checking in that mirror to make sure you look good.
While my son and I were out today we witnessed all of these and sadly enough we watched people swerve, almost hit another head on, and it made this mother mad. It was as though I was watching drunk drivers out on the road. Which is really about the same. Some do not think so. Some think they can use their ear pieces and still pay attention. Some think they can multitask and nothing will ever happen. Please hear me. It can happen. It happens every day all around us. We see on the news of people crashing trains, school buses, and yes, even moms driving their children home from school are crashing before they know it. It happens in a second. Just when you take your eye off the road it can happen.

I was one of these people I am now complaining about. I have texted, I have called friends, answered calls from my husband, ate while driving home from a busy day, checked my hair, and put on my make up. I am guilty of all these things. I am also learning to just let all these things go. Nothing is that important that it cannot wait. That one call is not more important than a life. That one text can wait to get noticed until you reach your drive way. And please, have you seen the people walking the aisles of Walmart? No one is really watching to see if you look your best!

You know when your friend texts you while driving you get involved in that conversation. Whether we think it or not our brains were not designed to do both. I watched a man drop his phone today and bend over drastically trying to find it. Is it really worth it? Just that minute on the phone could change your life or another forever. The longer we spend on the phone or doing other tasks while driving the less we are focused on paying attention.

We have taken driving for granite. We teach our children safety, all the while we are not being the examples we should. When my son gets in the car he is to put his phone in the glove box. I now keep my phone in my purse, and if we are really hungry while we are out, we stop and go in. Just that few minutes sharing a meal, whether fast food or not, is taking time to say I love you.

Just as we think we would never have an accident, what if it was our child killed by a driver while texting? Would that change your mind? What if it were your husband coming home after a long days work? What will it take for us to wake up and see that while we are behind the wheel we need to focus and pay attention to what is in front, behind, and at the sides of us?

We can hear all these stories on television and the news about so many, in the thousands dying from texting, from talking on the phone and yes, even those ear pieces are unsafe, but what do we do? We keep on making poor choices, watching the news and saying, "How terrible that family died today in that accident." Just what if it were your family, would it change your mind then?

We are to be good stewards of all God gives us. Well, that not only includes money, and all the things we have, but more importantly our lives and the lives of others. Our cars, our phones, they too are gifts and we need to be more aware and be the examples to our children and set a higher standard.

I can multitask just as well as another, but when we are driving it takes it to a higher risk. We are not at home in our living rooms, floating to the bathroom and on the the bedrooms. We are not just taking care of our children, and having business meetings. We are behind the wheel of a potential danger if we are not careful. We always complain about teen age drivers going too fast or not paying attention. We can complain about older folks driving when they can't see over the steering wheel, so why is it okay to text, or make that call? It could be your last call. That one text of your friend saying hi, could be at the cost of an other's life.

Life is too sweet and so precious for us to be so reckless in our actions. All we have to do is make a conscious effort to focus and take seriously what is before us. Today when you wake up and your getting ready for your day, place your phone in your purse. While you are getting ready for your day at work there are moms who are getting ready to take their children to the park, dads leaving for work, and friends going about their daily tasks. May we not just say I love you, but may we put those words in motion with our actions. May today be the day we love our neighbor in a whole new light.
