Wings Of Glass by Gina Holmes

First I must say that Gina Holmes blesses me. Every time I pick up a book she has penned I walk away truly blessed. She has a rare gift of drawing you in and making you part of the story. Your heart is so connected to the characters that you begin a journey to another place and time.

The cover is exquisite. It's so poignant to the story. The title captures such delicate beauty. On the front cover it says, "The best way not to repeat history is to know it. Having no one to lean on but God. It changes a person. It sure changed me." This is Penny's story to her son, Manny. A story of a journey to freedom.

"Wings Of Glass", is a beautifully written story that brings us to the depths of abuse. Once I began reading, I couldn't put this novel down until the last page was turned. Holmes is brilliant. The characters are so real you forget your reading about someone else. I fell in love with Penny, a young girl, trapped by the man she is asking God to change. But what Penny learns is that God cannot change someone unless they are willing to be changed.

This is such a poignant read. Such valuable life lessons captured within these pages. A story for every woman to read and then pass on to her daughter. This is a powerful story. It is filled with every emotion. I was just captivated by this story. I cannot say enough good things about it. Except that I cannot wait to see what Gina Holmes pens next!

We see friendship at it's best. Honesty from women who have been there and know. They read in between the lines. They know the signs of abuse.  Penny spends much time denying the truth. It all changes when she becomes pregnant. Yes, a baby changes everything. I adored Penny's friends. Penny connects with two women from different worlds. The strength of these women impacted me greatly. We grow to know how Callie Mae and Fatimah become such strong women. They reminded me of friends I am blessed to have. God places people in our lives for reasons and these two ladies were placed in Penny's life to help her to freedom.

We see Penny's husband, Trent, go through his own battles. We get a glimpse of his past and what has brought him to the place he is now. Penny struggles with leaving Trent. We see God at work here. In His perfect timing we see Him move in areas where Penny feels there is no hope. But in faith, there is always hope to be found.

I leave this story with wanting more. I want to know about Manny's life and how Penny is now. I want to know more about Callie Mae and Fatimah. Yes, this is brilliant writing. Writing that leaves you wanting more.

"Wings Of Glass" was a gift from Tyndale for my review.
